Bio – Jim Garrison – District 8

I have been in the neighborhood since 2008 and outside of the CAC, am a manager at a local architecture firm with diverse local, national, and international clients. My partner and I have a wonderful, smart‐alecky daughter with too many shoes and a love of music, fruit snacks, and princesses. With the recent implementation of Project Blueprint, increased local commercial development, and simultaneous fear/excitement of our future, I felt the need to participate in the CAC and thought I could help raise our collective voice publicly. I have enjoyed becoming more connected with our community and getting to interact with Clintonville on a broader scale.

I have advanced degrees in Architecture with a Graduate concentration in Urban Design from Kent State University and practicing in this field, I am typically on the other side of the table presenting to Boards or Commissions like the CAC on behalf of clients requesting variances or approvals. Professionally, I have acted in a leadership role for many years in architecture which requires me to bring together multiple diverse parties in order to see projects to completion. I feel that has benefitted my position thus far.

Politically, I’ve always tried to stay independent/neutral because I am displeased with the 2 major parties simply arguing 2 sides of the same 10 topics constantly. With that said, much of my social groups lean liberal but some are more conservative. I have close friends from all backgrounds and beliefs and value their opinions if they are not pulling news or facts from Facebook. I am a fan of small, local businesses but also appreciate the opportunities larger organizations came bring to our community.

Outside of work and politics, I enjoy Golf, Bowling, and Volleyball but will prioritize watching movies with family or friends. Despite my preference for all things Harold Ramis, my favorite movie is Back to the Future. I’ve also played drums for about 20 years, but occasionally pick up a bass or classical guitar. You can often find me getting carry‐out at Condado Tacos, stopping for groceries at Wieland’s, or wandering aimlessly in Beechwold Hardware.
