West Nile Alert!!

A Positive mosquito pool for West Nile Virus was collected from a trap near Webster Park.  The test from Webster Park was confirmed on August 9th by the Ohio Department of Health Laboratory. Due to this positive West Nile Virus mosquito pool, our Vector Control Program will be treating in Clintonville on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 3:30 am- 6:40 am.

The boundaries for the treatment are as follows:

Hollenback Rd. & Acton Rd. to the North

Oakland Park Ave. & Kenworth Rd. to the South

Granden Rd. & Fredonia Ave. to the East

The Olentangy River to the West

A press release and spray map was issued Monday, August 12th, 2019 it is attached here and the link to the on-line treatment map is attached to that. At this moment all requests to opt out of mosquito treatment will be honored that have already been filed.

The positive West Nile Virus pool does serve as a reminder for us to continue protecting ourselves from mosquito bites and to eliminate stagnant water from our properties including places such as gutters, rain barrels, and bird baths. One can also protect themselves from mosquito bites by using insect repellents and by minimizing their time spent outside during the late evening and early morning hours. Please let Ryan Younge, RS, the Vector Control Program Manager, know if you would like to discuss in further detail our mosquito reduction activities planned in Clintonville this week. His e-mail address is rtyounge@columbus.gov and his phone number is 614.645.6153.

Kenney Park Improvements

On July 16, 2019 at 8:30 am a private meeting facilitated by the Department of Recreation and Parks was attended by invitation only by a group of folks representing Casto, Delawanda community, Clintonville Area Commission, Our Lady of Peace and Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.  The main subject of the meeting was an update on improvements for Kenney Park that are a first step to prepare for the possible construction of a residential development at Graceland.  To be clear, the residential development has no financing at this point in time.

An easement transferring property from Graceland to Recreation and Parks was recorded in 2016.  The following changes to the parking area at Kenney Park are slated to begin July 17, 2019:

Construction of stairs down to the park;

  • ADA parking—current location is planned at the far north end of the park; access to the park for the mobility challenged individual is still up in the air;
  • Temporary repairs to the existing guardrail. Once construction of the residential development is complete, tall parking blocks will replace the guardrail; there will be other improvements to the parking area after continuing talks between Casto and R&P;
  • Casto reps confirmed that the R&P parking lot would not figure in the number of parking spaces required for the residential development or the shopping center;
  • CAC asked that the salt storage building be improved to prevent leeching of the salt into Bill Moose Ravine;
  • The port-a-john will be relocated and screened pending continuing negotiations with R&P;
  • There will be some tree trimming on the southern property line of the shopping center, but no wholesale removal of trees is planned.

This parking area will be located behind the LAFitness building and north to the end of the parking lot.  Temporary signage will make traffic flow clearer once these improvements are complete.

Current timeline for completion of these improvements is 5 weeks.

Utility Box Art Work Survey

The Planning & Development Committee thanks everyone who submitted entries for artwork to cover utility boxes.  The committee whittled down the entries and is now seeking input on the finalists.  To express your opinion on the entries please complete our survey by going to:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L2G6L5P

We look forward to hearing from the community.  Once we have the results of the survey we will announce the winners.  Right now we only have financial backing for completing two of the utility boxes.  A GoFundMe page to try to raise money to complete more of them is now active:  https://www.gofundme.com/CACtrafficboxart

Keep looking for more information.

Northmoor Park and Bike Path

The Northmoor Park and Bike Path (which is part of the Olentangy Trail) is flooded today, July 3.  Not sure how long it takes for the water to recede, but the parking lot was not at all visible.
