Take a survey & offer input to MORPC (Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission)

Last week, MORPC launched a survey to find out why and how people use data about Central Ohio (in fact, you may have received an email from us inviting you to participate).

To ensure broad representation from across our region, we are asking key local stakeholders to help us distribute the survey. We would be most appreciative if you could email the survey to your constituent/contact list and share via social media. To help, I’ve included sample tweets and email text for your use.

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is conducting a survey to find out why and how people use data about the Central Ohio region. We need feedback from current and potential data users to help us understand how to provide data in the ways that are most useful to the people and organizations who need it.
You may be wondering if you are the ‘right’ kind of data user to take this survey—the answer is almost certainly ‘yes’. We know that data is everywhere these days–whether it’s a big or small part of your life, chances are, you use data in some way. Regardless, MORPC would like to know more about that. Participation in this survey will provide MORPC, and its partner organizations, with valuable information about how to collect, maintain, analyze and provide data resources to the Central Ohio region.

Mosquito Spraying

There were two separate positive mosquito pools for West Nile Virus (WNV) collected from traps at Como Avenue and Webster Park. The mosquito pools tested from these locations were confirmed WNV+, by our staff on August 24th. Due to these positive West Nile Virus mosquito pools, our Vector Control Program will be spraying in Clintonville on Friday, September 1st  and Tuesday, September 5th  from 3:30 am-7:00 am, weather permitting.

The boundaries for the two sprays on September 1st are as follows:

North Broadway to the North

Olentangy St. to the South

I-71 to the East

The Olentangy River to the West

The boundaries for the two sprays on September 5th are as follows:

Henderson Rd. and Cooke Rd. to the North

North Broadway to the South

Indianola Ave. to the East

SR 315 and the Olentangy River to the West

BluePrint Columbus Interactive City-Wide Map

The city has now posted the interactive map for the BluePrint Columbus project.  This map covers ALL of the sections of the city that will be affected by the project and gives the target dates for each section of the project.

September 5th- Zoning & Variance Committee Meeting- 7:30 pm

The Zoning and Variance Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, 7:30 p.m., at the Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, 15 Clinton Heights Ave. A draft of the agenda is below. All notice and open meeting rules will be followed, but because the agenda includes only a routinely-granted request (increasing the permitted height of a garage from 15′ to 17′), unless objections are received, the Committee Chair may inform the applicants that they do not need to personally attend the meeting.

Update from SWACO

The latest information from Ty Marsh at SWACO:

We have been working hard to locate and place additional drop-off recycling containers in Clintonville. We are pleased to share that residents are now able to recycle – beyond their curbside container – at three (3), newly placed 8-cubic yard recycling containers at:

· The Soldiery, 4256 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43214  (between Indian Springs and Cooke Road)

We appreciate the generous support of The Soldiery and the community in making this location possible.

As previously mentioned, we are engaged with the city of Columbus on the potential use of one of their Clintonville property locations. We will also explore additional partnerships for other locations in the area.

As you know, our drop-off recycling program has undergone recent changes. Even with those changes, SWACO continues to provide 133 recycling containers at 55 locations throughout Franklin County.

Indianola Construction Update 8/21/17

From Jeffrey Ortega at the City of Columbus:

Striping of the long line – new lane configuration is planned for this evening.

New signs are up and bagged and one signal will have to be shifted at Cooke.

Tuesday morning – rush hour should be with the new striping road diet configuration.

Hand work (arrows, crosswalk, etc) will continue weather permitting during daytime hours.

West Nile- Mosquito Spray

There were three separate positive mosquito pools for West Nile Virus (WNV) collected from traps at Morse Road, Colerain Elementary, and Como Avenue. The mosquito pool tested from the Como Ave. location was confirmed WNV+ by the Ohio Department of Health.  The mosquito pools tested from the Morse Road and Colerain Elementary locations were confirmed WNV+, by our staff on August 10th.  Due to these positive West Nile Virus mosquito pools, our Vector Control Program will be spraying in Clintonville on Wednesday, August 16th and Thursday, August 17th  from 3:30 am-6:30 am.

The boundaries for the two sprays on August 16th are as follows:

Beechwold Blvd. to the North

Cooke Road to the South

Indianola Ave. to the East

Foster St. and Sellers Ave. to the West

 

North Broadway to the North

Weber Road to the South

High Street and Broadway Pl. to the East

A press release and spray map was issued Tuesday, August 15th it is attached here and the link to the on-line spray map is attached to that. At this moment all requests to opt out of mosquito spraying will be honored that have already been filed.

 

The positive West Nile Virus pools do serve as a reminder for us to continue protecting ourselves from mosquito bites and to eliminate stagnant water from our properties including places such as gutters, rain barrels, and bird baths. One can also protect themselves from mosquito bites by using insect repellents and by minimizing their time spent outside during the late evening and early morning hours. Please let Ryan Younge, RS, the Vector Control Program Manager, know if you would like to discuss in further detail our mosquito reduction activities planned in Clintonville this week. Indianola Road Diet Schedule

This is the latest schedule received on Indianola “Road Diet”

– Milling and Paving Operations on Indianola are currently scheduled as night work, concrete work continues during the day.
Current permit allows for work to be performed 24 hours a day

– Although there are quite a few homes in close proximity Indianola Ave is an arterial street and handles high traffic volumes, thus the work hour permissions.

– Milling should conclude Thursday or Friday, followed by SAMI (road will be covered with gravel for a few days)

– Paving scheduled to begin next Sunday night. (Weather Permitting ) and should last about 4 nights.

– Operations extend from North Broadway to Morse road

– Dates are estimated but goal is to have all work, including new striping (road diet) and signal work done by Aug 25th
