Who: When: Where: What: Age-Friendly Columbus will release its Findings Report from a year-long assessment researching age-friendliness in the City of Columbus. Following opening remarks and announcement of the findings, a panel of Age-Friendly Columbus administrators will be available to take questions. Age-Friendly Columbus is a city-wide initiative to ensure that individuals of all ages and abilities can remain in their neighborhoods and live a high quality of life independently. |

“There was a water main break on Olentangy River Road that is affecting much of Clintonville. I spoke to the city and they said there’s a crew working on it, but they could not give me any kind of a time-frame for a fix.”

COMMUNITY GARDENS GRANT PROGRAM
CITY OF COLUMBUS AND FRANKLIN COUNTY COMMUNITY GARDENS GRANT PROGRAM
Recognizing the many benefits of community gardens, the City of Columbus and Franklin County have partnered with The Columbus Foundation to support existing gardens and encourage the creation of new ones. A community garden is any piece of land gardened by a group of people for the betterment of the community. It can be urban, suburban, or rural. It can grow vegetables, fruits, herbs, or flowers. It can be one community plot, or many individual plots. Produce can be grown in containers, raised beds, or on a vacant piece of land. It can be at a school, church, hospital, or in a neighborhood. It can also be a series of plots dedicated to “urban agriculture” where the produce is grown for a market.
Grant awards will be made up to $2,000 for supplies and/or contractual services. Ongoing operational or personnel costs are not allowable expenses. Grant awards may call for additional requirements and reporting to the granting agencies.
Partial grants may be awarded including funding and in-kind product donations compliments of the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company.
The workshop to find out about the grant will take place January 31 at 5:30 pm at the Columbus Foundation, 1234 E. Broad Street. Deadline for submitting the application is February 24.

Free Smoke Detectors Still Available
Free Smoke Detectors Available
At the January meeting of the CAC Lt. Harland Hall with the Columbus Division of Fire informed us that CFD is still installing free smoke detectors. These are 10 year battery type detectors of both ionization and photoelectric. This is completely free for anyone in ANY economic circumstances. The smoke detectors are provided free of charge by the American Red Cross.
As Lt. Hall said, “We all want to make sure that our citizens of Clintonville are safer from fire.”

John Glenn Funeral Procession
The following is a notice from the City of Columbus:
Business Community in the Short North Arts District Unites to Support Procession of the Late Senator John Glenn
Short North Arts District, Columbus, Ohio – Businesses in the Short North Arts District are uniting in support of the Late Senator John Glenn, whose funeral procession is due to pass through the Short North Arts District Saturday, Dec. 17 from 1 to 2 p.m..
“This grand procession, is a momentous occasion for our community to come together to honor our own great American hero,” said Betsy Pandora, Executive Director of the Short North Alliance.
“Senator John Glenn was a treasure not just to the nation, but to this community in particular,” said Mayor Andrew J. Ginther. “This procession offers all of us an opportunity to come together and pay our respects to this great man.”
Meters along High Street will be taken out of service starting at 2 a.m. and returned to service as soon as the procession exits a given area, approximately 2 p.m.Vehicles parked in the bagged metered spots need to be moved by 8 a.m. Saturday. If vehicles are not moved by 8 a.m., those vehicles will be towed to a nearby side street.
Rolling street closures and visitors will have continuous access to the Short North Arts District leading up to, during and after the procession.
The parking garage operators in the Short North Arts District will offer special parking accommodations during the event. These accommodations include:
· Free Parking until 2:00 pm at The Hub Apartments Parking Garage The Joseph Parking Garage.
· $3.00 all day parking at The Goodale Parking Garage, Vine Street Parking Garage, South Parking Garage, and East Parking Lot.
